We glued ourselves to our computers all through January, working on some new video programs. We have the first cut of our documentary "Manistee Nme, a Lake Sturgeon success story" ready for testing and we are excited to bring it to the public. Working with the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians has been a real honor.
We just returned from Our World Underwater in Chicago, where we presented our lastest presentations. Greg created a special underwater painting for the show's 40th anniversary and it was show to about 2000 divers! Overall, this was one of the best shows we have ever attended. Our fins off to the staff and volunteers who put together such an amazing event :~) And if you missed the "Wetsuits" rocking out after the Saturday night film festival......well you missed out!! But look for a encore presentation next year :~)
We plan to upload a bunch of new videos in the next month or so. Watch for some new sturgeon and salmon footage on the Go With the Flow page. Some highlights from the OWU show and an over the artists shoulder look at the making of a glass cast commercial divers helmet the weights a mere 50 pounds!

October 29,2009
We went from the end of summer - to the end of fall with the blink of an eye. Our highlights include -
In September - We presented a short lake sturgeon video at the American Fisheries Society conference in Nashville, TN.
We took severel of Gregory's large reverse glass paintings to Pristine Marine in Florida.
We went to Manistee and filmed the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Nme (lake sturgeon)release ceremony. And we also dove with spawning salmon in the Little Manistee river.
In October - We set up new accounts on YouTube and Facebook and started uploading new videos.
We finished repainting the southeast facade of Studio North.
And we took some time for cider, donuts and fall paddles down the Black river.
Diver Tip of the Month: When diving with spawning salmon watch out.....a blow to your head can just about take you out....Greg doesn't recommend it :~) 08-07-2009 6:18:09 PM CST
Working with Friends of the Belle Isle Aquarium on their fund raiser "A Night at the Aquarium" turned out to be a wonderful experience for all involved. Kudo's to Jen, Vance and Diane for pulling off such a knock down sucess. For anyone who missed it, Greg painted a picture....in a fish tank....during the party! To see a news clip go to http://www.clickondetroit.com/video/20172004/index.html
Summer projects are in full swing including repainting the exterior of Studio North.....a HUGE job, but it's coming along nicely.
I'm looking forward to my family reunion....just one week away!
Looking to the fall, we expect to present at the American Fisheries Conference in Nashville, TN the first of September. Then we may dash down to Florida to deliver a selection of large RPG's for a gallery to showcase. Then back to Manistee to film the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Lake Sturgeon release ceremony....should be the highlight of our month!
TIP OF THE MONTH: Oil paint works best when painting underwater, as oil and water really don't mix :~) 07-11-2009 12:28:09 AM CST
We filmed Lake Sturgeon until the middle of June this year. We had a secondary spawn in the upper St. Clair river. Not something that happens every year, so it kept us extra busy.
We finally got some high speed internet at the studio so hopefully we'll be able to do a better job of staying up to date. I've started a facebook page with more blow by blow info.......see Kathy Johnson (with the rainbow trout :~)
July has finally brought us some hot weather and long days. Love the summer........
I'm looking forward to........a beach day with my nieces, seeing Greg paint underwater in a tank inside the Belle Isle Aquarium, traveling back to Manistee to see how the baby sturgeon are growing and our yearly family reunion in August.
Enjoy :~) 06-03-2009 5:07:46 PM CST
May was all about Lake Sturgeon. From Wisconsin to Lake St. Clair we've been chasing spawning adults across the Great Lakes basin and having a wonderful adventure. The fun will continue through next week when we join the Michigan DNR as they tag adult sturgeon in the lower St. Clair River.
Goals for June include: repainting the outside of Studio North....big job! And try to get some more internet speed :~)
Thanks for visiting....K 05-06-2009 11:56:41 PM CST
For those of you who are interested - we released the Long Tail duck (LT) before we left for Wisconsin. Dr. Bart Meadows, the wild animal specialist wanted to give him the chance to get home yet this season. We released LT into Lexington harbor where we originally found him. He seemed to have some difficulty flying. We plan to visit the harbor in the next week and see if he's still around.
There were several locals who keep a pretty good eye on the water. If we don't see him we'll see if anyone else has. Hopefully he's half way to the artic right now :~)
We'll keep you posted..... 05-04-2009 1:34:22 PM CST
Hey All,
We spent the end of April filming spawning Lake Sturgeon in Shawano, WI. The dive site is at the base of a dam and is rather shallow, only 5-12 feet. The viz was poor at just under four feet with tanic colored water. Nevertheless, it was one of the best Sturgeon experiences we have ever had! The fish ere literally swimming right up and out of the water. We spent four days on the water with Nick, Clarita, the Wis. DNR, half the city poplulation and thousands of fish:~)
We hope to return this summer and film the rest of the story for a documentary we are working to produce.
Thanks to Brian and Abby for holding down the fort/studio............ 04-23-2009 12:08:03 PM CST
Hi there! This is Abby, the new intern. I'll be updating and playing around with the website for the next few weeks.
Once I'm done, I plan to have added and edited photos and sideshows, format the site to look more uniform, and fix any broken or miss-directing links. If you see anything funny or acting up, don't be afraid to leave a comment! I'm working on having the site appear the same on different computer screens and browsers. If something looks weird, I'll look at it from my end and fix it. If it's happening on your end (photo's appearing in odd places, different fonts/colors. etc.), I'll let you know how to format your browser to see what we here at GregoryAD see! :)
Also, be on the lookout for a GregoryAD YouTube account! This way, you can view a current video clip on this site, and see an archive of older ones on the actual YouTube! I'm even thinking of adding video sideshows of available artwork to the account, on the fact the Greg makes a lot of awesome stuff. Stuff so awesome, that it cannot be contained on a single site :D!
If you have any comments or ideas to help make the site better, just drop me a line in the comments box! I'm always eager to hear some feedback to make the site better, and can't make the site the best it can be without feedback from the loyal minions - I mean viewers - of this site! >:) 04-15-2009 5:26:32 PM CST
Signs of spring are here :~)
The fish are returning to the river, the Easter bunny stopped by and soon it will be Lake Sturgeon time.
Greg has been busy creating over fifty new art pieces. He tries to get as much work out as he can these months, because once the Lake Sturgeon spawning starts he'll be underwater until November.
Studio North has a new intern......say "hi" to Abbigail.....she's a student at Baker College in graphic arts. She will be uploading images of Gregory's new artworks over the next few weeks, so keep checking the slideshows to see what's new.

Thanks for the comments guys!
April has been a pretty cool month so far....right up till it snowed last night, enough already!!
The first week of April found us following the DNR as they began their yearly fish stocking. Greg was able to film four releases...approximately 150,000 rainbow and brown trout altogether. We got some great new footage.
While filming in Lexington harbor we helped rescue a duck tangled in fishing net. It turned out to be a Long Tail duck (in most bird books it's listed as an Oldsquaw.) It is a male in full winter plumage. He is from the Arctic tundra and was just wintering here in the Great Lakes. We took him to our local wild animal vet, who did surgery on one wing and is currently prepping him to move to a wild animal rehab facility. We plan to follow his progress and we'll keep ya'll posted :~)
